What fun! Last week, I was able to introduce 3 people  to the excitement painting in encaustic.

There are people interested in the encasutic portrait classes and I have been encouraged to create an online class.

COLD WAX AND OIL workshops
Oct. 16 & 17th 10am to 3 pm
Nov. 13 & 14, 10 am to 3 pm.
Two Day Workshops: $250 USD plus $20 materials fee

This workshops include transportation from La Comer. I will pick you up at 9:45 am and take you back around 3pm. or you can take a cab or drive. Directions on my website; http://www.ezshwan.com/directions-to-studio.html

I am adding cold wax and oil to my workshops. The prices will be a bit less than the encaustic classes. The materials cost will be $20 rather than the $40 for the encaustic.

Another private class

Look what can be done in a private class. This student had taken a 2 day introductory workshop with me a few years ago and wanted to create her favorite landscape in encasutic. She said, "This is hard", but she did it. I introduced oil glazes and scraping to her. What do you think?

Encaustic Beginners

Yesterday I spent a day with two beautiful sisters,  from Texas. They are visiting San Miguel de Allende with their parents.

They had never tried encaustic and they only had one day to experience painting with hot wax and torches.

Perhaps, because they came with no expectation, and are young and open, they picked up the technique fast.

Tuesday and Wednesday of this week I had the privalige of sharing lots of advanced encaustic techniques with 2 more class participants. I feel as if not only am I sharing much of my encaustic experience, I am making new friends.

I was privileged to meet another artist, who came to San Miguel for the first time to take a three day private workshop with me.

Dana has been a working artist for years, specializing in murals and faux finishing, but never tried encaustic before. We covered everything from the basics of the history, ventilation, making medium to advanced techniques. She had a natural feel for the torch and immediately created glass-like surfaces and moved into more texturing.

During our break time we shared our stories and became better acquainted.

New Studio, new workshop schedule

I have a new studio with room for more students. Lots of space and light with everything you need to create amazing encaustic painting. I have hundreds of examples of what can be developed in encaustic from simple marbleizing, carving, collage, photos , transfers, carving, painting figuratively and more.

I am an award winning artist and have exhibited my work Internationally. My classes are longer that others offered and I will pick you up and bring you to my beautiful studio/home/gallery for an afternoon in the campo, experiencing an artistic adventure and leaving with completed paintings.

Encaustic is an expensive medium, but I supply everything. All you need to bring is a snack or lunch. I have had advanced artists in my classes and others who have never had a brush in their hands.

Now that I am on my way with a new series, I have the energy to offer 2 advanced workshops in November:

The price for 2 days is $220 U.S.or peso equivalent,  plus $40 material charge. I provide all materials.

I have had a nice response from the online classes. The comments have been great, except one person was disappointed that I mentioned that I would show taping in one video and then changed my mind during the demo. I just didn't think the painting needed it.  My videos are hosted my Vimeo, and they do not give email address of the buyers. I wish I could contact her and I would do a personal Skype session with her and make it good with her.

As soon as I finish an article for the Encaustic Art Institute's online magazine, I'll get back in the studio to start my own new work.

I will be teaching private classes, but I'm considering not doing introductory classes - at least for the time being. There are many others who are teaching the beginning workshops and I would like to work with those who are have some encaustic experience.

 Carol from Knoxville took a private class for 2 days. Although she is an accomplished painter in acrylics, she had never touched encaustic before. I love doing the one-on-one teaching. We can cover so much ground. We had a great time, and I feel I made a new friend.

I am hoping the weather will be cooler in June. I am changing the dates for later in the month and will keep my fingers crossed that the rains will start.

I was concerned about the afternoon heat in the studio, so I asked all the participants to arrive an hour earlier - 9 instead of 10. They all did. It cooled down considerably today, the second day, because of a wind/dust "storm" last night that had me without electricity for a while. It was worth it to have a beautiful day today and no one had to break out in a sweat.

This group of five people was a dream to work with. Everyone quickly got the feel of the encaustic and the torch and created their own vision.

March advanced workshop

It was a full week of classes. This advanced workshop allowed me to show many techniques that can be used in encaustic.
