What fun! Last week, I was able to introduce 3 people  to the excitement painting in encaustic.

There are people interested in the encasutic portrait classes and I have been encouraged to create an online class.

Encaustic Beginners

Yesterday I spent a day with two beautiful sisters,  from Texas. They are visiting San Miguel de Allende with their parents.

They had never tried encaustic and they only had one day to experience painting with hot wax and torches.

Perhaps, because they came with no expectation, and are young and open, they picked up the technique fast.

Tuesday and Wednesday of this week I had the privalige of sharing lots of advanced encaustic techniques with 2 more class participants. I feel as if not only am I sharing much of my encaustic experience, I am making new friends.

In the past year, there has been few requests for a group workshops and most of the artists want specific techniques. I have been giving more private classes that can be arranged to suit your schedule and focus on exactly what you would like to learn.

I offer a side-by-side class where I work only with you for 5 1/2 hours. We actually can cover more in one day than in a two day workshop with several people.

 I supply primed boards, and all the other materials, including the encaustic paint, brushes torches and almost any tool you might like to try.
 

The cost is $250 U.S. or peso equivalent + $20 for materials. My students almost always leave with a few finished paintings.

Here is how we end the workshops

After the end of all workshops, we stop for a glass of wine and discussion of the class. Yesterday was the 91st class I have given. I keep adding more and more techniques to the advanced workshops. It is my pleasure to share all that I know.

I am now offering 3 day intensive workshops that include transportation from town to my home/studio/gallery that is a 15 minute drive  into the country.

Of course, the 2 day workshops are still happening. The 3 days is for you artists who just are not ready to stop after the first 2 day of fun and creativity.

New Studio, new workshop schedule

I have a new studio with room for more students. Lots of space and light with everything you need to create amazing encaustic painting. I have hundreds of examples of what can be developed in encaustic from simple marbleizing, carving, collage, photos , transfers, carving, painting figuratively and more.

I am an award winning artist and have exhibited my work Internationally. My classes are longer that others offered and I will pick you up and bring you to my beautiful studio/home/gallery for an afternoon in the campo, experiencing an artistic adventure and leaving with completed paintings.

Encaustic is an expensive medium, but I supply everything. All you need to bring is a snack or lunch. I have had advanced artists in my classes and others who have never had a brush in their hands.

4 delightful women from the Bay area had just one day to attend a workshop and discover the magic of encaustic painting. I crammed in as much as possible and they painted, experimented and played in the wax. I was happily surprised how much they accomplished in one day.
 I know I had fun sharing with them and I feel they also had a memorable experience.

I have had a nice response from the online classes. The comments have been great, except one person was disappointed that I mentioned that I would show taping in one video and then changed my mind during the demo. I just didn't think the painting needed it.  My videos are hosted my Vimeo, and they do not give email address of the buyers. I wish I could contact her and I would do a personal Skype session with her and make it good with her.

As soon as I finish an article for the Encaustic Art Institute's online magazine, I'll get back in the studio to start my own new work.

I will be teaching private classes, but I'm considering not doing introductory classes - at least for the time being. There are many others who are teaching the beginning workshops and I would like to work with those who are have some encaustic experience.

Online workshops

I am taking time off from teaching in my studio and have created online encasutic workshops. Not everyone can take the time to visit beautiful San Miguel de Allende and although I have been invited to travel to other places to teach, I have everything at my fingertips in the studio and I haven't figured out how to travel with all the equipment.

If you already have had some experience in encaustic, I can share many different encaustic techniques and processes online. It was a time consuming activity. There are 11 different classes, including an introduction to my studio and life.

I  include several image examples of each technique beyond what we are working on. A supply list will be included as well as Skype conferences by appointment.

 Carol from Knoxville took a private class for 2 days. Although she is an accomplished painter in acrylics, she had never touched encaustic before. I love doing the one-on-one teaching. We can cover so much ground. We had a great time, and I feel I made a new friend.

I held a semi-private introductory workshop last week. Deborah was an enthusiastic participant. Lilliana didn't want her photo taken. That was the first time any of my students refused - and I have had over 300 people in my classes.

I am going to take a break from teaching for a while to concentrate on my own work and create a book on painting figures in encaustic. I will offer private classes to artists who have some experience in encaustic and want to learn advanced techniques.

I feel that I teach encasutic differently than most other teachers of this technique. I share the technicalities and then encourage everyone to make this exciting medium their own. Although I have hundreds of examples of my encaustic paintings in my home/studio/ gallery, everyone leaves my workshops with their own art. I work side by side to guide them to accomplish their artistic visions in their own voices.
