First time painter

Alan is a friend of my youngest daughter and he is visiting San Miguel for 10 days. He tried his hand in encaustic painting, even though he never has painted anything in his life. I decided to dedicate his private class to the basics, creating a smooth surface and transfer. We were both most pleased with the results of a days work.

Another private class today. Liz from Vancouver Island already had worked in encaustic and wanted to experience figurative painting, incising and working with the hot pen.We accomplished it all .I enjoy working one on one so we can specialize on specific techniques.

71st encaustic workshop

Mónica
It is hard to believe that this class was the first time anyone attending ever tried encaustic. There were some truly professional results.

Donnis

Donnis and Chris had a   semi-private 2 day workshop and both loved the procedure and technique. What's not to love? Chris is already planning on taking another class. This was Donnis' second workshop.

advanced class video

Here is the video of the participants in an advanced technique class. I am always impressed and inspired by the talented artists who create original, unique painting in the workshop.

last workshop until June

Jacqueline Segovia
I was concerned about the afternoon heat in the studio, so I asked all the participants to arrive an hour earlier - 9 instead of 10. They all did. It cooled down considerably today, the second day, because of a wind/dust "storm" last night that had me without electricity for a while. It was worth it to have a beautiful day today and no one had to break out in a sweat.

This group of five people was a dream to work with. Everyone quickly got the feel of the encaustic and the torch and created their own vision.

Advanced workshop, Feb 10 & 11

Carole
I hate to see some workshop end, and this was one of them. These talented women were enthusiastic and open to experiment and share. I learn a few more encaustic possibilites from
Judy Wise who teaches workshops also and her book Plaster Studio is available as a pre-publishing order from Amazon. check out her blog:http://judywise.blogspot.com/

It was another beautiful day in San Miguel and the artists in the workshop had the feel of the propane torch and were free to see where the encaustic technique could take them. Two of them will be back Thursday to join another 3 artists in the advanced technique workshop. Carole is working on a larger multiple piece and I'll photograph her Friday when the next class is over.
