Private encaustic class

Hannah had taken the introductory class and decided that she would like private classes. We spent the last two days, advancing her experience of the torch, layering and the hot pen. She left with 2 lovely paintings, that I forgot to photograph from the first day, but today, I got a couple of shots of her working on her homage to Miró.

November encaustic workshop

It is a continuing delight and privilege to introduce new people to encaustic painting. This group was so much fun and I got to make new friends.

"Ezshwan, I so loved the encaustic class!  I enjoy being a beginner and learning something new...especially when it is so much fun and satisfying.  I plan to take more classes from you when I return next summer and know of two others who will join me.  You are a wonderful patient teacher.  I appreciate everything about the class.  As I walk around San Miguel I have been noticing surfaces which look like encaustic..."

Sept. encaustic workshop

Anna
I had just two people in the September workshop, so I changed the original direction of the class. Verity, from Australia, has had encaustic experience, but was looking for some technical assistance and several advanced techniques. Anna, a new resident of San Miguel wanted to add encaustic to her existing oil paintings and try as many techniques as she could squeeze into two days.

Giving these classes gives me the opportunity to make new friends as well as sharing all that I have discovered in my 13 years of using encaustic.

encaustic studio rental

After people have taken both the introductory and advanced encaustic workshops with me, I offer the opportunity to rent my studio for a day or two, and use all my materials. That way one can work, or play on their own without instruction, although, if I am close to the studio, I will answer questions and offer suggestions.

Here are photos of three of the four artists who were working in the studio today.

Second Day

This workshop was a breeze for me. Everyone was a professional painter and they took off with the technique and made individual, beautiful paintings. And they all want to come back for another workshop soon.

Three of these artist never touched encaustic before. Can you guess which ones?

July workshop

This was the first day of my 55th workshop! I am so blessed to meet such great people, many of whom become lasting friends. Two of the women are from Mexico City. It was a chance to practice my Spanish. I have a long way to go before I can explain the encaustic process in Spanish.

More tomorrow.
